Kurt's Drug Problem

It is common knowledge that Kurt Cobain had a long history of drug abuse, however it is not as commonly know when this started, what he did, and the effects of it. In this section you will learn the answer to all those questions and more.

Kurt Cobain started his life-long drug habit started at age six. He was like many children hyperactive and prescibed a drug most commonly used for the disorder, Ritalin, a type of amphetamine that helps stop the effects of the disorder. He later became hooked on the drug.

Don and Wendy Cobain divorced when young Kurt was only eight, this made him very depressed, at or around the same time Kurt was having terrible allergic reactions from food additives because he had such a sensitive stomach which would plague him throughout his life. At this time he was moving back and fourth between parents and felt very withdrawn and even more depressed. And in 1984 Kurt's mother Wendy remarried which brought Kurt's self-esteime down enough for him to start doing Hash like most people in his small logger town.

This lead to harder drugs and the true start of the downward spiral. In the summer of 1986, just two years after Kurt first tried Hash, he experimented with Heroin which was probably the worst decision of his short life.

When Nirvana finally went main-stream, the fame was too much for Kurt and his weak stomach to handle, he was taking many pain killers and anything he could to stop the pain. This was attributed to him being depressed and nervous over this new found fame. The pain was so bad he was even quoted saying that if the pain came back he would kill himself.

On the last Nirvana tours ('93-'94) Kurt's drug habits were getting out of control, and there were many disputes within the band.

In early 1994 Nirvana was touring Europe and Kurts life was quickly going down the tubes, in fact he locked himself in the bathroom of his Seattle home with a Beretta .38 threatening to kill himself, shortly after this event took place Kurt was rushed to a local hospital after he had a severe drug overdose.

Soon after, Kurt checked in to Exodus Re-had center in Los Angles, CA as he did for similar reasons in 1992. Kurt checked himself out two days later and went home while his wife Courtney Love was in Pennsylvania.

And on April the fourth of the year nineteen hundred and ninety-four Kurt Donald Cobain decided to end his life after taking enough heroin to kill three people. Shortly after noon on that dreaded day Kurt Put his six pound .20 gauge Remington shotgun purchased a few days earlier in to his mouth and ended his life, this after many years of depression and drug abuse.
